Make your own taste safe fake snow for Winter play

This is a perfect sensory activity that can be used to enhance a small world play for a Winter or Christmas theme!

To make your taste safe fake snow you just need a few simple ingredients from your cupboard:

* Baking powder/bicarbonate of soda

* White sugar

* Cornflour or Arrowroot

* Water

I put roughly equal parts arrowroot/cornflour, bicarbonate of soda/baking powder and sugar. The sugar gives a nice sparkle in the snow!

Then add a small amount of water. As soon as the water mixes with the arrowroot/cornflour it will turn into a strange 'slime' called oobleck ,which is awesome in itself, but not what we need today.

Just keep mixing with a folk or spoon to break up the oobleck. Keep adding water to make sure it isn't a powder anymore but not too much so it sticks!

Then you might want to chill in the fridge (or use really cold water) to make it cold to touch for a real winter theme.

You are ready to use it how you want now. We used ours by creating a winter small world play scene by spreading it onto a tray and adding natural finds such as pine cones and bark but you can also add your snow themed animals and other items into the mix, just get creative and have fun with your little one.

We would love to see what you create so please feel free to send us your photos or tag us @NatureMakers on social media.
